Amazon Customer Review                                     “An inspiring and perfect gift for any aspiring young professional,                                      lawyer or other”, 8 Oct. 2016 By Bill Gifford This review is from: No Bar to Success: An Inspiring Life Story (Hardcover) I cannot improve on Sir Derek Jacobi’s overall characterization of No Bar to Success as “a masterly and hugely enjoyable celebration of an outstanding life lived with grace and integrity…brilliantly told.” Peter Whiteman, after all, started life on the wrong side of the City of London during the Blitz and the grim post-war years in England. After a surprisingly slow start, Whiteman’s unique combination of great intelligence, creativity, drive, energy, and grit emerged and attracted a series of mentors from his schools, the Bar, and the Bench who must have been very happy to guide Whiteman’s path to the very top of his profession as a barrister and judge. At one point Whiteman attributes the mysterious course of his life to “luck,” but the memoir illustrates repeatedly that Whiteman has mostly had the kind of luck that the golfer Ben Hogan was referring to when he admitted, “The harder I work, the luckier I get!” Whiteman worked hard, found those great mentors (actually, they seemed to find him), and reached for the stars, all with great imagination, good humour, and the ability to overcome some very bad fortune when it struck. I promptly realized that No Bar to Success would be an inspiring and perfect gift for any aspiring young professional, lawyer or other. By Mrs A Reece on 12 May 2017 Verified Purchase The writer achieves what he set out to achieve - an inspiring read which proves that with enough determination, resilience and hard work it's possible to achieve your dreams. Unsurprisingly, the style of writing is easy to read and to digest. I haven't finished the book yet, but if the book continues in the same vein, I shall be giving it to my 11 year old son to read as he embarks on the next step in his education with aspirations of one day taking Silk. By Sir Derek Jacobi CBE on 4 November 2016 An inspiring account of a life packed with drama, interest, pathos and humour. A masterly and hugely enjoyable celebration of an outstanding life lived with grace and integrity. Peter's brilliantly-told struggle to create an incredibly successful career from very humble beginnings includes many insights and fascinating anecdotes - gossip abounds! It's a great read about a legal life lived to the full. All of this, and more, justifies the subtitle of the book, "An Inspiring Life Story". It is the most wonderful read. By Mrs Jane Reed on 28 September 2017 I wasn't sure this was going to be my type of book but I swiftly became totally absorbed in the life of Peter Whiteman. Apart from the tragic circumstances of his wife's death, there are so many interesting and amusing anecdotes. Insights into the people he has come across in his highly successful career and an inspirational lesson in how one can overcome what appear to be insurmountable problems through sheer grit and determination. Really recommend this book

COPY OF LETTER FROM DENISE BRYER, BBC BROADCASTER, DATED 22.10.2016 “I have just finished reading the book!  I couldn’t put it down!  And can’t wait to tell you, what an amazing privilege it was to read such an intimate, and honest, account of your remarkable life. Your fighting spirit, and your joyful attitude towards your work, is inspiring. With your brilliant mind, positive outlook, (nothing seems to daunt you) no wonder you achieved everything you aspired to! I felt your joy, and your great sorrow. A Masterpiece of a Book!!” (signed) Denise Bryer
